Soccer Game Preview: Garey vs. Duarte

The Garey Vikings are taking a road trip to square off against the Duarte Falcons at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Garey's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for three straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Garey fell victim to Azusa and their airtight defense on Tuesday. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Aztecs. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 683rd, while the Aztecs are ranked 336th).

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Tuesday Duarte sidestepped Baldwin Park for a 2-1 win.

Duarte is also on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 4-3-1 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 28 goals over those five contests. As for Garey, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 8-4-1.

Garey came out on top in a nail-biter against Duarte in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, sneaking past 1-0. Will Garey repeat their success, or does Duarte have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
