Football Recap: Andrew Shupe's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Holton over Santa Fe Trail

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Holton can now relate to. They fell just short of the Santa Fe Trail Chargers by a score of 28-26 on Friday. The contest was a 14-14 toss-up at halftime, but the Wildcats couldn't quite close it out.

Holton's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Andrew Shupe, who rushed for 129 yards and a pair of TDs on only 14 carries. The Wildcats are 3-1 when Shupe posts 100 or more rushing yards, but 3-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Alec Frazier, who rushed for 92 yards and one score on only eight carries.

Holton's loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Santa Fe Trail, the win keeps them at an undefeated 11-0.

Holton does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Santa Fe Trail, they will take on Hayden on Friday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Chargers 11.5, the Wildcats 7.6) so any points scored will be well earned.
