Football Game Preview: Fergus Golden Eagles vs. Laurel Locomotives + How To Watch

Fergus is 2-7 against Laurel since October of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Golden Eagles will host the Locomotives at 7:00 p.m. Laurel took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Fergus, who comes in off a win.

Laurel will be up against a hot Fergus squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Golden Eagles blew past Dawson County 46-20 two weeks ago. Given the Golden Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Montana football rankings (they are ranked third, while the Red Devils are ranked 35th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Colton Blumhardt was the offensive standout of the contest as he rushed for 54 yards and one touchdown.

Meanwhile, after some red-hot attacks on offense in their last three games, Laurel finally came back down to earth on Friday. They took a blow against Billings Central Catholic, falling 35-0. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for the Locomotives, who until this matchup were averaging 13.5 points allowed.

Fergus' win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Laurel, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.

Fergus ended up a good deal behind Laurel in their previous matchup back in September of 2024, losing 21-6. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of the Locomotives' Krew Hunter, who rushed for 55 yards and three scores, and also threw for 170 yards on 15 of 22 attempts. Now that the Golden Eagles know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
