Football Game Preview: Coronado Cougars vs. Liberty Patriots + How To Watch

Coronado is 1-7 against Liberty since September of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Cougars will head out to face off against the Patriots at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Coronado is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Faith Lutheran, who was ranked 23rd at the time (Coronado was ranked 18th). The Cougars walked away with a 14-7 victory over the Crusaders on Friday.

Meanwhile, Liberty had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30.9 points) and they went ahead and made it eight on Friday. They took their game with ease, bagging a 49-7 win over the Wolves. With the Patriots ahead 28-7 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Coronado better focus on containing Anthony Alberro and Selby Griego as the pair were huge in Liberty's win. Alberro rushed for 113 yards and three scores on only eight carries, while Griego threw for 139 yards and a pair of TDs.

Liberty's run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 4.15 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 11.4 on average over their last five games.

Liberty didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Rysen Dacosin-Arcala, Aiden Webster, Payson Rich, and Jermari Arnold picked up one apiece.

Coronado's record is now 3-6. As for Liberty, their record now sits at 8-1.

Everything came up roses for Coronado against Liberty when the teams last played back in September of 2024, as the squad secured a 47-7 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
