Baseball Recap: Hoggard Triumphs

After losing to Ashley the last time they met, Hoggard decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Vikings came out on top against the Screaming Eagle by a score of 7-3 on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Vikings.

Lucas Mathews was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Preston Smith, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Hoggard's win bumped their record up to 8-6. As for Ashley, they are on a 12-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-12.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hoggard will face off against Broughton at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Vikings' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Capitals have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season. As for Ashley, they will take on Topsail at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Pirates' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Screaming Eagle's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
