Softball Recap: Pierce Bluejays vs. Centura Centurions
Pierce dropped to 7-6 on Saturday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They lost 9-3 to the Centura Centurions. The Bluejays were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Centurions apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.
Athena Bretschneider made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Evelyn Skrdla, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
As for Centura, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-4. Considering they have won four games by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
On Centura's side, Calleigh Sundberg made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. Those nine strikeouts gave Sundberg a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run.
In other batting news, Centura let Naudia Hruby and Lucy Chelewski run wild. Hruby went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run, while Chelewski went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those two doubles gave Hruby a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lauren Suntych, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
