Recap: Porterville Panthers vs. Sunnyside Wildcats
The Porterville Panthers's game last Friday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They rang in the new year with a 38-27 victory over Sunnyside.
It was another big night for Ryleigh Schoonover, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 19 rebounds. That makes it ten consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Porterville's points. Another player making a difference was Amaya Cortez, who scored six points along with five rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Sunnyside lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ruby Cartwright. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds. Cartwright hasn't dropped below two steals for 12 straight games.
Porterville's victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 8-6. As for Sunnyside, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-9.
Porterville's road trip will continue as they head out to face Mt. Whitney at 7:30 p.m. on January 9th. As for Sunnyside, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Fowler at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
