Basketball Game Preview: Woodside Wildcats vs. San Mateo Bearcats

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Woodside Wildcats challenge the San Mateo Bearcats at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday... Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Woodside is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Jefferson: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Woodside blew Jefferson out of the water with a 45-17 final score. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.

Meanwhile, San Mateo had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18 points) and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They took down the Ravens 51-34. 51 seems to be a good number for the Bearcats as the team scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.

San Mateo pushed their record up to 14-4 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.8 points per game. As for Woodside, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 8-8 record this season.

Woodside came up short against San Mateo in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 35-27. Can Woodside avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
