Softball Recap: Oak Hill Academy Extends Winning Streak to Five

Oak Hill Academy waltzed into their matchup on Friday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They never let Kirk Academy get on the board and left with a 7-0 victory. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 11-4 two weeks ago.

The result came thanks to Kaelyn Pennington's shutout, as she gave up just three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Mollie Caroline Brand, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mary Crosley Coker, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Oak Hill Academy's win bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Kirk Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.

Coming up, Oak Hill Academy will face off against Winona Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The contest will give the Raiders their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Kirk Academy, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on West Memphis Christian at 4:30 p.m. on the 25th.
