Football Recap: Erie Comes Up Short

Erie extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to six on Friday, dropping them down to 0-3. They had to suffer through a 42-12 loss at the hands of the Humboldt Cubs. The Red Devils were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 26-0.

Humboldt's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. They haven't had any issues with Erie recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Mason Sterling went supernova, rushing for 177 yards and four touchdowns on only 14 carries, while also throwing for 62 yards and one TD. His longest rush was for an impressive 57 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Humboldt also got a significant boost from Layne Wagner, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 100 yards.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Erie will challenge Jayhawk Linn on Friday. As for Humboldt, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Eureka at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
