Football Recap: Halstead Dragons vs. Ellsworth Bearcats
Halstead had lost four straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 1-5 to make it five. They were dealt a 42-14 defeat at the hands of the Ellsworth Bearcats. The Dragons were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bearcats apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.
Most of the squad's points came courtesy of special teams, who contributed eight in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Edric Zorn, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
As for Ellsworth, their win bumped their record up to 5-1. The result was nothing new for the Bearcats, who have now won five games by 24 points or more so far this season.
Ellsworth's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tucker Goss, who rushed for 111 yards and four touchdowns. Goss is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 111 every time he's taken the field this season. Jackson Minear was another key player, rushing for 105 yards and one TD on only seven carries.
Coming up, Halstead will be playing in front of their home fans against Southeast of Saline at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Dragons will need to watch out since the Trojans have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. As for Ellsworth, they will venture away from home to face off against Beloit on Friday. The Trojans will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last.
