Basketball Game Preview: Mayfair Monsoons vs. Paramount Pirates

The Mayfair Monsoons will venture away from home to take on the Paramount Pirates at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Mayfair has now lost nine straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since December 19.

It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 59-29, which was the final score in Mayfair's tilt against Gahr on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, the Monsoons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 983rd, while the Gladiators are ranked 345th).

Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Paramount over Downey in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Paramount was the clear victor by a 56-34 margin over Downey. The Pirates have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matchups by 21 points or more this season.

The victory made it two in a row for Paramount and bumps their season record up to 16-8. As for Mayfair, their loss dropped their record down to 3-15.

Mayfair was dealt a bruising 62-28 defeat at the hands of Paramount in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. Can Mayfair avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
