Basketball Game Preview: Tulelake Honkers vs. Surprise Valley Hornets

The Tulelake Honkers are taking a road trip to face off against the Surprise Valley Hornets at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Wednesday, Tulelake beat Big Valley 57-49. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Honkers.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Surprise Valley). They simply couldn't be stopped on Wednesday as they easily beat Dunsmuir 64-26. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Surprise Valley's win came from a few key players Tulelake will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Isabel Juarez, who posted 16 points. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Adelia Martinez, who scored 16 points.

Tulelake's victory bumped their record up to 13-11. As for Surprise Valley, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-11.

Tulelake was able to grind out a solid victory over Surprise Valley when the teams last played back in January, winning 57-47. The rematch might be a little tougher for Tulelake since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
