Softball Recap: Mercy Takes a Loss

Mercy had lost three straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 6-19 to make it four. They took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Auburn Bulldogs. The Monarchs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

Audrey Batenhorst was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Rae Carmichael, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

As for Auburn, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.9 runs over those games.

On Auburn's side, Gretchen Paschal made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up three earned runs off ten hits. Paschal was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, Cammie Hamann and Bree Wehenkel did most of the damage at the plate: Hamann went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI, while Wehenkel went 3-for-4 with two runs.

Mercy didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 10-1 defeat against Gretna East on the 27th. As for Auburn, they have also already played their next contest, a 9-0 win against Falls City on the 27th.
