Basketball Game Preview: Maywood CES Wolfpack vs. Sotomayor Wolves

The Maywood CES Wolfpack will head out to face off against the Sotomayor Wolves at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Maywood CES's defense has only allowed 28.4 points per game this season, so Sotomayor's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Maywood CES is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Torres: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Maywood CES blew Torres out of the water with a 61-14 final score. The Wolfpack have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 26 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Maywood CES to victory, but perhaps none more so than Carmen Lilly, who almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine steals. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Maldonado, who posted 19 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals.

Meanwhile, Sotomayor played a tough matchup on Monday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against Marquez, falling 53-26. The Wolves have struggled against the Gladiators recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Maywood CES will have to keep a close watch on Destiny Velasco and Janie Gallardo, a pair of players who had a big impact on Sotomayor's prior game. Velasco scored 14 points and eight boards, while Gallardo earned nine points and eight rebounds.

Sotomayor's loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Maywood CES, their win bumped their record up to 6-4.

Everything went Maywood CES's way against Sotomayor when the teams last played back in February of 2024, as Maywood CES made off with a 47-22 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Maywood CES since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
