Softball Recap: Jeff Davis Takes a Loss

Jeff Davis extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping them down to 17-8. They came up short against the South Effingham Mustangs, falling 9-0. The shutout was out of character for the Yellowjackets seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in August.

As for South Effingham, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 15-2. Considering they have won ten games by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

For South Effingham's part, they gave Kelsee Collins the start and clearly made the right call: she pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Collins has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sydney Minshall, who went 2-for-4 with five RBI, one triple, and one run. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Olivia Johnson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Jeff Davis didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 7-6 defeat against Effingham County on the 27th. As for South Effingham, they will take on Evans at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
