Softball Recap: Gilmer Gets the Win

Gilmer hadn't done well against Union County recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Bobcats walked away with a 5-1 win over the Panthers. This was payback for the Bobcats, who suffered a 10-7 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Lily Fortune made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over 6.2 innings pitched. Fortune was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one triple and one run. She is on a roll when it comes to triples, as she's now hit at least one in each of the last three games she's played dating back to last season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Braley Stewart, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Another player making a difference was Mary Grace Jones, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Gilmer has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs this season. As for Union County, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Coming up, Gilmer will face off against Coahulla Creek at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Union County, they will square off against Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
