Basketball Recap: Castle Park Falls Despite Big Games from Ahliah Samaniego and Monserrat Medrano

If Castle Park was feeling good fresh off their 42-22 takedown of San Ysidro last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Castle Park Trojans took a 38-27 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sweetwater Red Devils on Friday. The Trojans were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Red Devils earlier this season, when they won 40-35.

Despite the defeat, Castle Park had strong showings from Monserrat Medrano, who posted nine points, and Ahliah Samaniego, who put up six points.

Sweetwater was led to victory by Leilyn Goldberg and Jaslene Nixon. Goldberg had 16 points, while Nixon scored 14 points. Those 16 points gave Goldberg a new career-high.

Castle Park's loss dropped their record down to 10-13. As for Sweetwater, their win bumped their record up to 6-12.

Castle Park wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 44-26 defeat against Orange Glen on the 11th. As for Sweetwater, they have also already played their next contest, a 33-29 victory against San Ysidro on the 11th.
