The Jacobs Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Central Rockets at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Jacobs is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Jacobs took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 19-3 margin over Marian Central Catholic. The win was some much needed relief for the Eagles as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Connor Davis looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Cooper Gulgren was incredible, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and two RBI. Maddox Miller was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
Jacobs hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Central ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Wauconda, sneaking past 9-8. That's two games straight that the Rockets have won by just one run.
Connor Sreckov made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Sreckov was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Wagner Viebrock, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. He has become a key player for Central: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 11-16-2 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Aidan Lindquist, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Jacobs' record is now 19-11. As for Central, their record now sits at 14-17-2.
Jacobs' speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's contest. The Eagles have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Central, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Jacobs continue to outrun the ball?
Jacobs couldn't quite finish off Central in their previous matchup two weeks ago and fell 6-4. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
