Recap: Palm Desert Aztecs vs. Banning Broncos
The Palm Desert Aztecs waltzed into their game Wednesday with two straight wins but they left with three. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Banning 51-23 on the road. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Palm Desert also won the last time the pair played back in November of 2022.
Katelyn Gallagher was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 24 points and 15 steals. That makes it 11 consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Palm Desert's points. Another player making a difference was Isabel Martinez, who scored ten points.
When it comes to explaining why Banning lost, one person who can't be blamed is Maryanne Palacios. Despite the final result, she scored 13 points. The game was Palacios' ninth in a row with at least ten points. Keyli Hernandez was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Palm Desert has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. As for Banning, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Palm Desert will square off against Rancho Mirage at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Rancho Mirage comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 23 points in their last six games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Banning, they will head out on the road to face off against Coachella Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Coachella Valley is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.
