Football Recap: Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley Starts Season with Win on the Road

Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Otto-Eldred/Oswayo Valley 42-6. With Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley ahead 28-0 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Max Gallagher was nothing short of spectacular: he rushed for 186 yards and three scores while picking up 10.9 yards per carry. Those three rushing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. Another rusher making a difference was Logan Skibinski, who rushed for 59 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 251 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 150 rushing yards in five consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Special teams also played a big role in the game for Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley, adding 12 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Skibinski, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.

Despite the loss, Otto-Eldred/Oswayo Valley still got an impressive performance from Shane Magee, who rushed for 58 yards and one TD, and also threw for 122 yards on ten of 18 attempts. Magee's longest rush was for an incredible 70 yards.

Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 26-22 victory against Redbank Valley on the 28th. As for Otto-Eldred/Oswayo Valley, they have also already played their next contest, a 28-16 loss against Bradford on the 29th.
