Elkhorn dropped down to 9-9 on Saturday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Gretna Dragons, falling 8-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Dragons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-1 last Tuesday.
As for Gretna, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by seven runs or more this season.
For Gretna's part, Taelyn Rupiper looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. Rupiper has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Emerson Johnson was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddie Kurrus, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Elkhorn wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 10-2 victory against Waverly on the 13th. As for Gretna, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 5-1 win against Norris on the 13th.
