Baseball Game Preview: Cathedral Phantoms vs. Irvine Vaqueros

The Cathedral Phantoms will take on the Irvine Vaqueros at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. Cathedral will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.

Cathedral is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Long Beach Poly 2-1.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Tuesday Irvine sidestepped Citrus Valley for a 3-2 victory.

Jason Alderson looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He is becoming a predictor of Irvine's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 5-1 (and 11-12 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, Owen Song was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last seven games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Nico Macalino, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Irvine was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Citrus Valley only posted a batting average of .167.

Cathedral's record now sits at 17-9. As for Irvine, their record is now 16-13.
