Football Recap: Valencia Comes Up Short

Valencia lost against Portales back in September of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Jaguars took a blow against the Rams, falling 51-14.

Valencia's loss came despite strong showings from Michael Storms III and Santino Mares. Storms III rushed for 146 yards and one TD, while Mares rushed for 111 yards and one score on only nine carries. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 70 yards.

Portales found their leader in sophomore Slade Segovia, who rushed for 191 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.6 yards per carry. With that strong performance, Segovia is now averaging an impressive 114.3 rushing yards per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Kingston Lee, who threw for 24 yards and a pair of TDs.

Valencia's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Portales, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.

Valencia has already played their next contest, a 40-14 defeat against Chaparral on the 3rd. As for Portales, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 19-8 win against Silver on the 3rd.
