Basketball Recap: Marquez Gladiators vs. San Pedro Pirates
Marquez saw some tournament action on Thursday. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (34-33), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time.

When it comes to explaining why Marquez lost, don't look at Corshell Vaughn. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 17 points and 15 boards. Vaughn has been hot for a while, having posted 12 or more boards the last 27 times she's played. Magaly Gonzalez was another key player, putting up eight points along with 11 boards and seven steals.
Even though they lost, Marquez smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 31 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.
San Pedro got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jaime Sanchez out in front who posted ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Adrid, who had eight points.
Marquez's loss dropped their record down to 6-6. As for San Pedro, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Marquez will challenge Maywood Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for San Pedro, they will square off against Rancho Dominguez at 4:30 p.m. on January 10th.
