Baseball Game Preview: Thomson Bulldogs vs. Lakeside Panthers

The Thomson Bulldogs are taking a road trip to square off against the Lakeside Panthers at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Thomson is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 12 runs on Thursday, they were much more limited against Swainsboro on Friday. They came up short against the Tigers, falling 8-2.

Thomson saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dalton Gergen, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI. Another was Logan Robinson, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Lakeside didn't have quite enough to beat Grovetown on Wednesday and fell 5-4. The loss was the Panthers' first of the season.

Josh Lombardo put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Peyton Grizzle was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles and one RBI. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in February of 2024.

Thomson's record now sits at 1-1. As for Lakeside, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Thomson skirted past Lakeside 4-3 in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Will Thomson repeat their success, or does Lakeside have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
