Football Recap: Big Spring Takes a Loss

While it was all tied up 21-21 at halftime, Big Spring was not quite Fort Stockton's equal in the second half on Friday. They lost 42-21 to the Panthers. The Steers were up 21-7 in the first quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

Fort Stockton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Gerry Diaz, who threw for 273 yards and four touchdowns, and also rushed for 86 yards. Diaz's passing game has become a key predictor of the Panthers' success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-2 otherwise. A healthy portion of Diaz's aerial production (86 yards to be exact) went to Jaden Sotelo.

Big Spring's loss dropped their record down to 3-2-1. As for Fort Stockton, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Big Spring will challenge Kermit at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Fort Stockton, they will take on Seminole at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers' defense better be ready for this one: the Indians have averaged an impressive 42.3 points per game this season.
