Preview: La Quinta Aztecs vs. Marina Vikings
The La Quinta Aztecs and the Marina Vikings will face off at 6:30 p.m. on December 18th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. La Quinta is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
On Saturday, La Quinta was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 39-34 to Estancia.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Katie Nguyen, who scored ten points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaitlyn Mai, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, the stars were shining brightly for Marina in a 41-26 victory over Ocean View on Friday. Given Marina's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 454th, while Ocean View is ranked 997th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
La Quinta has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season. As for Marina, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-3.
La Quinta might still be hurting after the 54-32 defeat they got from Marina in their previous meeting back in December of 2022. Thankfully for La Quinta, Tiana To (who scored 21 points along with nine rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
