Football Recap: Newcomb Takes a Loss

Newcomb had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped down to 1-4 to make it six. They lost 40-14 to the Loving Falcons. The Skyhawks were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 26-0.

When it comes to explaining why Newcomb lost, don't look at Colt Yazzie. Despite the final result, he rushed for 83 yards and two scores on only 11 carries. The Skyhawks also got a significant boost from Landon Noble, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 128 yards.

As for Loving, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-1. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by 26 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Tristen Onsurez, who threw for 266 yards and three touchdowns on only 18 passes, and also rushed for 33 yards. Those 266 passing yards gave him a new career-high. Brodie Allen was another key player, rushing for 38 yards and a pair of TDs.

Coming up, Newcomb will be playing at home against McCurdy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. This will be the Skyhawks' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Loving, they will head out to take on Non Varsity Opponent at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
