Basketball Recap: Louisville Takes a Loss

After flying high against Venice on December 7th, Louisville came back down to earth. The Louisville Royals'2024 ended with a 64-50 loss against the Ventura Cougars on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Royals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 112th, while the Cougars are ranked 12th).

Ventura found their leader in sophomore Brinley Anderson, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 18 boards. Anderson is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: she's pulled down at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Kailee Staniland was another key player, putting up 16 points along with seven assists and five boards.

Louisville has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-3 record this season. As for Ventura, the victory was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-2.

Louisville didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 59-49 defeat against Legacy on the 28th. As for Ventura, they will venture away from home to challenge Burroughs at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Ventura's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three games.
