Basketball Recap: Marquez Drops Highest Score of Season Against Dominguez

Marquez's game on Wednesday was all tied up 19-19 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They fell just short of the Dominguez Dons by a score of 40-38. One positive for the Gladiators, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Defeat or not, Marquez got some senior leadership from Corshell Vaughn and Magaly Gonzalez. Vaughn posted eight points and 17 rebounds, while Gonzalez almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine boards. Vaughn is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down 12 or more in the last 20 games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Samantha Larios, who earned six points.

Even though they lost, Marquez smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 24 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Dominguez found their leader in freshman MYA HARRIS, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten boards. The team also got some help courtesy of DARIYA SNYDER, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten boards.

Marquez now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Dominguez, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.

Marquez wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 42-32 loss against Marshall on the 11th. As for Dominguez, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 36-34 win against Cabrillo on the 9th.
