Softball Recap: Yutan-Mead Starts Season with Win on the Road

Yutan-Mead had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They put the hurt on the Milford Eagles with a sharp 11-0 victory on Thursday. That's more bragging rights for the Patriots, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Jersey Siske made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in August of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Adie Gale and Leah Thompson did most of the damage at the plate: Gale went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Thompson went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave Gale a new career-high. Addi Jones was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Yutan-Mead was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Milford only posted a batting average of .087.

Coming up, Yutan-Mead will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Twin River at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Milford, they have already played their next contest, a 10-0 defeat against Standing Bear on the 23rd.
