Recap: Clayton Valley Charter Ugly Eagles vs. Miramonte Matadors
The Clayton Valley Charter Ugly Eagles struggled with three-point shooting accuracy on Wednesday (the Miramonte Matadors were 21% better) and sadly the final score reflected it. Clayton Valley Charter took a 54-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of Miramonte. Clayton Valley Charter lost against Miramonte in their previous head to head back in January of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 68-29 score last time.
Despite the defeat, Clayton Valley Charter saw an underclassman step up: Ella Scott scored seven points along with nine rebounds and three steals. Scott hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for eight straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Giana Marcantonio, who scored three points along with five rebounds and two steals.
It was another big night for Karena Eberts, who dropped a double-double on 30 points and ten rebounds for Miramonte. That makes it six consecutive games in which Eberts has scored at least a third of Miramonte's points. Another player making a difference was Maegan Eichenberger, who scored eight points along with five steals.
Clayton Valley Charter has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-7 record this season. As for Miramonte, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Clayton Valley Charter will challenge Ygnacio Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Averaging 54 so far this season, Ygnacio Valley's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Clayton Valley Charter better be ready for a challenge. As for Miramonte, they will head out on the road to face off against Mt. Diablo at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
