Preview: Coalinga Horned Toads vs. Tranquillity Tigers
Coalinga is 10-0 against the Tigers since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Coalinga Horned Toads will be playing at home against the Tranquillity Tigers at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Coalinga has three straight victories, the Tigers have 16 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Coalinga stacked a 14th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Tuesday. They took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 66-24 victory over Dos Palos. Given Coalinga's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 461st, while the Broncos are ranked 1259th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Coalinga's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Breeze Aispuro, who scored ten points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Aispuro has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Julia Gressman, who scored ten points.
Meanwhile, Tranquillity had to suffer through a rough 57-17 loss at the hands of the Eagles.
Coalinga pushed their record up to 20-4 with that victory, which was their eighth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.3 points per game. As for Tranquillity, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-21.
Everything came up roses for Coalinga against the Tigers in their previous matchup back in January as the squad secured a 70-22 win. Will Coalinga repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
