Baseball Recap: Covington Academy Victorious

Covington Academy's game on Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They walked away with a 12-9 win over the Trinity Prep Lions. The victory continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Lions: they've now won seven in a row.

Austin Lowery made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out 12 batters over 4.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off only two hits. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Hunter Burnette and Tyler Henderson did most of the damage at the plate: Burnette scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Henderson scored four runs while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance gave Burnette a new career-high in hits. Caleb Price was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Covington Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Trinity Prep only posted a batting average of .200.

Covington Academy's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2.

Covington Academy didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 15-1 defeat against Hearts Academy on the 3rd. As for Trinity Prep, they have also already played their next matchup, a 19-7 loss against Peoples Baptist Academy on the 4th.
