Softball Recap: Valor Christian Picks Up Third Straight Win on the Road

Valor Christian had won three straight on the road, but on Thursday they bumped up to 10-7 to make it four. They came out on top against the Arvada West Wildcats by a score of 5-2. The Eagles have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Wildcats, too.

Elizabeth Canales was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off eight hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Abigail Watson, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Kendall Ferguson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

As for Arvada West, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-4 record this season. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.

On Arvada West's side, Morgan Farr spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits.

On the hitting side, Macie Ferguson made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Makinzi Gallegos, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one stolen base.

Coming up, Valor Christian will square off against Bear Creek at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Arvada West, they will face off against Columbine at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rebels have averaged an impressive 9.5 runs per game this season.
