Recap: Chestnut Ridge Lions vs. Somerset Eagles
Winning is just a little bit easier when you make five more threes than your opponent, a fact the Chestnut Ridge Lions proved on Monday. They took down Somerset 43-24. Given Chestnut Ridge's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 258th, while Somerset is ranked 526th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Chestnut Ridge to victory, but perhaps none more so than Maya Wingard, who scored 11 points along with five steals. Another player making a difference was Jenna Damjanovich, who scored 13 points.
When it comes to explaining why Somerset lost, one person who can't be blamed is Eve Housley. Despite the final result, she scored 17 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Housley has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. Reagan Holmes was another key contributor, scoring no points along with 14 rebounds and two steals.
The victory makes it two in a row for Chestnut Ridge and bumps their season record up to 9-9. As for Somerset, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-16.
Chestnut Ridge will head out on the road to challenge Mountain Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mountain Ridge will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive. Somerset will take on Penn Cambria at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Penn Cambria focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up six last Friday.
