Basketball Recap: Vacaville Christian Takes a Loss

If Vacaville Christian was feeling good fresh off their 46-6 takedown of Highlands last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Vacaville Christian Falcons were just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 40-39 to the Rio Vista Rams. The Falcons have struggled against the Rams recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the defeat, Vacaville Christian saw an underclassman step up: freshman Elena Vizcay posted ten points and five steals. Vizcay is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Lexi Martinez, who earned six points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, Vacaville Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 20 consecutive matchups.

It was another big night for Samiah Holley, who dropped a triple-double on ten points, 11 rebounds, and 11 steals for Rio Vista. Caleigh Bloesch was another key player, shooting 4-for-7 from downtown and dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 boards.

Vacaville Christian's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-8. As for Rio Vista, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-11 record this season.

Vacaville Christian wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 64-22 defeat against Woodland Christian on the 27th. As for Rio Vista, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 52-30 loss against Lindhurst on the 27th.
