Soccer Game Preview: Montgomery vs. Hilltop

The Montgomery Aztecs will head out on the road to face off against the Hilltop Lancers at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Hilltop better have a healthy lead at halftime, because if last week is any indication, that's when Montgomery really get things going. Montgomery put the hurt on Sweetwater with a sharp 5-1 victory on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Hilltop's game on Thursday was all tied up 1-1 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Southwest SD 2-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Lancers.

Citlaly Gutierrez was the driving force of Hilltop's attack as she scored both of Hilltop's goals, bringing her season total up to nine goals.

Hilltop is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5-1 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 31 goals over those six matches. As for Montgomery, their record is now 10-6-1.

Montgomery suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to Hilltop when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Can Montgomery avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
