Baseball Game Preview: Wharton Wildcats vs. Buchholz Bobcats

The Wharton Wildcats will venture away from home to take on the Buchholz Bobcats at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. Wharton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.

Wharton is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. Everything went their way against Sickles as they made off with a 12-1 victory. Considering the Wildcats have won 12 matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Connor Evans tossed a big game, striking out six batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March.

On the hitting side, Wharton got a big performance out of Justis Meadows, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Jarius Morris was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

On Saturday fans watched as two of the best teams in the nation hit the field. Buchholz sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over Pace. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bobcats.

The team relied heavily on Kai So, who fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3.

Wharton's victory was their 12th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 27-7. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Buchholz, their record now sits at 32-2.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Wharton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Buchholz struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.2 strikeouts.
