Basketball Recap: Futures' Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

If Futures was feeling good fresh off their 51-28 takedown of Bradshaw Christian last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Futures Knights fell 40-30 to the Del Campo Cougars on Friday. The Knights' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

When it comes to explaining why Futures lost, don't look at Emma Kharchenko. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 18 points and 17 boards. Kharchenko is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down 13 or more in the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Nikole Vinokurov, who posted five points along with nine rebounds and five steals.

Even though they lost, Futures smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Futures' loss dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Del Campo, their win ended a 13-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 5-10.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Futures will take on Forest Lake Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Forest Lake Christian will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Futures surely won't give up without a fight. As for Del Campo, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Del Campo Cougars challenge the Roseville Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
