Soccer Recap: Mira Mesa Victorious

It's playoff time, and Mira Mesa had no trouble coming through when it counted. While the 0-0 score might suggest a draw, it was the Mira Mesa Marauders who were credited with the win on Wednesday. The Mira Mesa Marauders got it done in the shootout by posting seven goals to the Escondido Charter Tigers's six. Given the Marauders' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 92nd in California, while the Tigers are ranked 228th in California), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mira Mesa is on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up two goals over those 16 matches. The loss snapped Escondido Charter's winning streak at 12 games and leaves them with a 16-6 record.

Coming up, Mira Mesa will face off against San Diego at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Mira Mesa's last three contests have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. Escondido Charter does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
