Volleyball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Marleen Chavez and Sophia Moreno Lead Pasadena to Victory

Pasadena lost to Kingwood Park back in October of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. The Eagles had just enough and edged out the Panthers 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted since August 14th.

It was an exciting match in which no team won back-to-back sets, but at the end of the day Pasadena got the one that really mattered. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 21-25, 25-21, 19-25, 17-15.

Leading Pasadena to victory were Sophia Moreno and Marleen Chavez. Moreno had 14 digs and three aces, while Chavez had eight digs and two aces. The dominant performance also gave Moreno a new career-high in assists (four).

They weren't the only good server: Pasadena was lethal from the service line and finished the game with ten aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in seven consecutive matches.

Emma Abel and Ava Etheridge certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Abel had 12 digs and four aces, while Etheridge had 27 digs and three aces. Zoe Paez was another key player, getting 15 digs and one assist.

Pasadena has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. As for Kingwood Park, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 15-14.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pasadena will welcome George Ranch at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Kingwood Park, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Crosby at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
