Basketball Recap: Sovereign Woods' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Leuzinger over Serra

Leuzinger and Serra squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Leuzinger had to settle for second. They took a 65-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Serra Cavaliers.

Several Olympians players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sovereign Woods, who posted 21 points. Woods continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Tatyana Aubry was another key player, going 6-for-15 en route to 15 points and five rebounds.

Serra's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kaicia Snelson led the charge by putting up 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariyah Lewis, who went 6-for-15 on her way to 15 points.

Leuzinger's loss dropped their record down to 18-16. As for Serra, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 18-12 record this season.

Leuzinger does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Serra, they will face off against Tesoro at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a five-game winning streak alive.
