Softball Recap: Palmer Terrors vs. Mesa Ridge Grizzlies
Palmer extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 13 on Tuesday, dropping them down to 0-11. They lost 17-2 to the Mesa Ridge Grizzlies. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Terrors couldn't push the score so high this time.
Palmer saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Camila Vazquez, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one double.
As for Mesa Ridge, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-7-1. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by seven runs or more this season.
On Mesa Ridge's side, Kaitlyn Fielder was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over 2.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs but no hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts Fielder has posted since September 5th. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in both of her plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season.
In other batting news, Brooklyn Bolander was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since September 5th. Another player making a difference was Elexiyah Montoya, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Coming up, Palmer will be playing in front of their home fans against Canon City at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Terrors will need to watch out since the Tigers have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups. As for Mesa Ridge, they will head out on the road to face off against Sierra at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Stallions have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.91 runs per game on average), something the Grizzlies will no doubt try to take advantage of.
