Basketball Recap: Ocean View Comes Up Short

Ocean View extended their losing streak to nine on Wednesday, dropping them down to 6-17. They took a hard 52-33 fall against the Costa Mesa Mustangs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 62-27 two weeks ago.

As for Costa Mesa, they pushed their record up to 17-7 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.7 points over those games.

Costa Mesa had a senior duo take command as Emi Kamikihara went 5-for-6 en route to 14 points in addition to five boards and three steals and Leilani Quero posted ten points and four steals. Kamikihara has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last ten times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Yanelly Martinez, who scored seven points.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Ocean View will square off against rival Garden Grove at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Costa Mesa is set to challenge their familiar foe Westminster at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
