Football Recap: Shawnee Mission East Lancers vs. Mill Valley Jaguars
After flying high against Seaman last Friday, Shawnee Mission East came back down to earth. The Lancers were beaten by the Mill Valley Jaguars 56-21 on Friday. The Lancers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-7.
Despite the loss, Shawnee Mission East had strong showings from Jack Reeves, who rushed for 60 yards and one score, and Chase Jehle, who picked up 67 receiving yards. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Max Sullivan, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.
Most of the squad's points came courtesy of special teams, who contributed 15 in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Henry Stiglic, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Leading Mill Valley to victory were Blake Jay and Max Piva. Jay rushed for 97 yards and five TDs on only nine carries, while Piva rushed for 208 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 9.0 yards per carry. Those 208 rushing yards gave Piva a new career-high.
Having lost for the first time this season, Shawnee Mission East fell to 2-1. As for Mill Valley, they now also have a winning record of 2-1.
