Softball Recap: KIPP Atlanta Collegiate Gets the Win

KIPP Atlanta Collegiate took a 16-run loss the last time they faced off against Carver, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Warriors had just enough and edged out the Panthers 14-13 on Tuesday.

Kamorah Wimberly spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered nine earned (and four unearned) runs on three hits and racked up 18 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Breanna Haynes, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with 12 stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those 12 stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Zaniyah Dais was another key player, going 2-for-4 with five stolen bases and three runs.

KIPP Atlanta Collegiate has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Carver, their defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-9.

Looking ahead, KIPP Atlanta Collegiate will face off against South Atlanta at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Carver, they will take on Mundy's Mill at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.22 runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
