Preview: Franklinton Demons vs. Hammond Tornadoes

The Franklinton Demons will be home for the holidays to greet the Hammond Tornadoes at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Tuesday, everything went Franklinton's way against Sumner as Franklinton made off with a 62-36 win. That 62-36 margin sets a new team best for Franklinton this season.

Hammond has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matches by 26 points or more this season. They claimed a resounding 66-27 win over Sumner on the road. Given Hammond's advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 117th, while Sumner is ranked 299th), the result on Wednesday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Hammond had a senior duo take command as Levi Carson scored 16 points and Charles Armstrong scored 12 points along with six assists. The game was Armstrong's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Trendan Spears, who scored three points along with five assists and three steals.

Franklinton's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.5 points per game. As for Hammond, their win bumped their record up to 6-3.

Franklinton suffered a grim 62-38 defeat to Hammond in their previous meeting back in December of 2022. Thankfully for Franklinton, Zach Staten (who scored 18 points) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
