Football Game Preview: Pershing County Mustangs vs. Battle Mountain Longhorns

The Pershing County Mustangs will face off against the Battle Mountain Longhorns at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Pershing County's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed last Friday. They really took it to Yerington for the full four quarters, racking up a 60-0 victory. The win was familiar territory for the Mustangs, who have now won three games in a row.

Ashton Jimenez was a one-man wrecking crew as he rushed for 111 yards and one score on only five carries. His longest rush was for an incredible 75 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Ayden Montes, who rushed for 27 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Pershing County was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 329 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 209 rushing yards in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Battle Mountain against North Tahoe on Saturday as the team secured a 41-0 victory. The Longhorns haven't had any issues with the Lakers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Battle Mountain's victory bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Pershing County, their win bumped their record up to 7-1.

Everything came up roses for Pershing County against Battle Mountain when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 35-0 victory. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Longhorns have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
